1. Information We Collect

EntitleCan collects only the information you voluntarily provide. We collect the following types of data:

  • Calculator data: Demographic details (age, province, gender), household information (marital status, number of children), income, and employment status — all provided voluntarily through our questionnaire.
  • Account data: Email address and hashed password (if you create an account), plus your saved profile information.
  • Technical data: Anonymized error logs and aggregate usage statistics to improve our service.

We do NOT collect: Social Insurance Numbers (SIN), bank account numbers, credit card details (processed securely by Stripe if you subscribe to Premium), health records, exact addresses, or any government-issued identification numbers.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely for the following purposes:

  • Calculate your eligibility for Canadian government benefit programs
  • Estimate potential benefit amounts based on your profile
  • Provide personalized notifications when program rules change (Premium)
  • Improve the accuracy and coverage of our eligibility calculations
  • Generate anonymized, aggregate statistics about benefit program usage

We do not use your personal information for advertising, marketing to third parties, or any purpose unrelated to the services described above.

3. Data Storage & Security

We take the security of your data seriously:

  • Data is hosted on Supabase, a secure PostgreSQL database platform with enterprise-grade security
  • All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher
  • Row-level security (RLS) policies ensure that each user can only access their own data
  • Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms — we never store plaintext passwords
  • Administrative access is restricted and protected by multi-factor authentication

4. Data Retention

Our data retention practices depend on how you use the service:

  • Without an account: Calculator data is processed entirely in your browser and is not stored on our servers. No personal data is retained.
  • With an account: Your profile data is retained until you request deletion. You can request deletion at any time.
  • Notification history: Retained for 12 months, then automatically deleted.
  • Anonymized analytics: Aggregate, non-identifiable data may be retained indefinitely to improve our service.

5. Cookies & Tracking

We use a minimal number of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Supabase authentication session cookies, required for login functionality
  • No advertising cookies: We do not use any advertising, remarketing, or behavioral targeting cookies
  • No third-party tracking: We do not embed third-party tracking pixels or social media trackers

If analytics are enabled in the future, they will use anonymized, aggregate data that does not identify individual users.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate EntitleCan:

  • Supabase: Database hosting and user authentication
  • Vercel: Website hosting and deployment
  • Stripe: Payment processing for Premium subscriptions (Stripe handles all payment data directly — we never see or store your credit card details)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with data brokers, advertisers, or any other third parties for their own marketing purposes.

7. Your Rights

Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws, you have the following rights:

  • Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account
  • Right to data portability: Request an export of your profile data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw your consent to data processing at any time

8. Children's Privacy

EntitleCan is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@entitlecan.ca and we will promptly delete the information.

9. International Users

EntitleCan is designed for Canadian residents and primarily serves users within Canada. Your data is stored and processed in Canada. If you access our service from outside Canada, please be aware that your information will be transferred to and processed in Canada in accordance with Canadian privacy laws.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to registered users via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
